The Vision

"Family catechesis therefore precedes, accompanies and enriches all other forms of catechesis. Thus there cannot be too great an effort on the part of Christian parents to prepare for this ministry of being their own children's catechists and to carry it out with tireless zeal." (Catechesis In Our Time #68)

The vision for the Family Program of catechesis is to build strong Catholic families who are successful in teaching their children the truths of their faith, the joys of following Jesus Christ and who are able to live fruitful lives faithful to that truth.

Goals:

  • To encourage parents to fulfill their God-given duty and privilege of educating their children in the Catholic faith.

  • To build Christian community by sharing our family's faith journey with other families in the program.

  • To provide opportunity for continued growth in faith of the adults in the program through teaching and through sharing.

  • To celebrate Catholic life together through common prayer, service to others, social activities as well as liturgical celebrations.

Dear friends in Christ,

It is my joy to welcome you to the web site for The Family Program*.

Taking the words of John Paul the Great to heart that the “future of the world and of the Church passes through the family” (FC 75) The Family Program has as it goal the strengthening of Catholic family life through the means of education in the truths of our faith and the building of strong Christian community.

Relying on the Catechism of the Catholic Church as the sure norm for teaching the truths that we believe and hold sacred, assures us that our teaching is not our own but that of Christ, as He entrusted it to His Church. The Catechism delivers the faith to us in such a manner that allows us to see and understand its beauty and its integrity. The monthly lessons that are drawn from the Catechism are written for the parents in order that they are enabled to continue to grow in the knowledge of their Catholic faith. They are also written so that the parents will be aided in knowing how to share these life giving truths with their children and thus incorporate them into their daily lives.

The Family Program is hard work and lots of fun. The fruit of the parents’ labor to be their own children’s catechist creates an atmosphere where the Catholic faith can become the center of a family’s life and where a common language of faith is shared among all. This, in conjunction with coming together with other families for teaching, service and the celebration of liturgy, builds a community of faith where the support and encouragement of other families is made real.

Please take time to look around the web site and learn more about how The Family Program works. I would suggest that the best place to start is the section called Testimonials. There you will hear, in their own words, from actual families in the program and why they have found The Family Program to be important in their lives!

When faith is known, lived and loved in the home then it has its best chance at bearing the kind of life long fruit that so many Catholic parents pray for in their family’s lives. Read on and if you are interested in becoming a part of this program feel free to email us for more information.

I am deeply indebted to Dale Robinson who is the creator and manager of this site – thank you, Dale! I am also grateful for the wonderful Family Program logo that has been created by Tom Tetreault -- thank you gentlemen, for your ever present assistance.

Yours in Christ Jesus,
